For those of you watching the All Blacks take on Ireland at Eden Park tonight you’ll notice that the front three for New Zeland all have new boots on their feet. Tony Woodcock, Andrew Hore and Owen Franks were spotted in training this week wearing the new adidas adipower Kakari boots. They are also expected to be worn by Ireland’s Paul O’Connell.
They are the latest boots for those in the pack, that replace those previously known as the adidas Flanker, the name change makes sense as players in all positions of the front eight can wear them, not just loosies.
After the players gave feedback to adidas, the Kakari are 10% lighter than the Flanker, the upper is a new Bravo synthetic leather which has the feel of a soft K-leather but is far stronger and is desingned to withstand deformation and stretching. There is also a 5mm heel wedge for reduced stress on the lower body. They are also micoach compatible, just don’t tell your coach!
New boy Brodie Retallick, who’ll get his first cap for the All Blacks in the Ireland game after having impressed at Lock for the Chiefs in Super Rugby will be wearing the exact same boot, but in the alternative white colourway, that we saw him wearing at training this week too.
