Rugby is one of the most physcially demanding sports out there, and players must possess a combination of cardiovascular endurance and strength. With games lasting 80 minutes, players are constantly requried to exert sharp bursts of energy, with short runs often ending in a collision, where players need to effect a tackle or wrestle for the ball. Conditioning has moved away from long, plodding runs to more rugby-specific forms of training, where interval sessions are combined with functional weight lifting movements to ensure players have a combination of fitness, strength and endurance.
