adidas FF80 Pro 2.0 SG ‘All-Blacks’ Rugby Boot Review
Used by number eights and loose forwards, the FF80 Pro is purely designed for enhanced lightweight comfort and stability. You will have seen the FF80 Pro laced-up and headlined by Richie McCaw and Kieran Read at their successful 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign.
DESIGN & COLOUR-WAY: The FF80 template offers for some slick colour-ways due to the side panel design and although we had the All-Blacks exclusive of a pure black visual, the boots looked stunning and powerful. The back-to-black treatment adorns the entire boot including the synthetic upper, TPU Powerband and sole plate for a nostalgic feel on a modernistic silo.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Fit wise this boot is great for any foot type, it will suit the widest of feet and is very similar to the adiPower Kakari. Sizing wise you should expect a true to size fit with the FF80 Pro. The FF80’s Singmax synthetic upper is much more comfortable, softer and lighter than the previous FF80 generation. A Pre-moulded EVA sockliner with anti-slip EVA inserts are used for extra grip, stability and comfort inside the boots.
TPU POWERBAND: The TPU forefoot weld is the boot’s stand-out feature as it further enhances the lockdown effect in the midfoot allowing for increased traction, acceleration and responsiveness. The revolutionary technology runs across the majority of the lateral side panel in a cage-like design which also integrates into the lacing system to offer increased fit levels.
SOLE PLATE: A SPRINTFRAME outsole offers flexibility and support while a raised heel is used for dynamic foot position. Another headline feature of the FF80 is the innovative 5&2 stud configuration which offers and provides increased traction when pushing off and driving forward – perfect for the back-row players.
VERDICT: The FF80 Pro is the second lightest rugby boot by adidas Rugby as it is lighter than the adiPower Kakari and Predator Incurza. If you are a player that wants a stable and comfortable playing experience with weight in mind then the FF80 Pro is the boot for you this season. The adiPower Kakari is also available for those players wanting extra protection and stability in their game.
