adidas Predator Incurza SG Rugby Boot Review
adidas’ Predator Incurza is one of the most popular rugby boots on the market and this week we laced up the latest Liquid Silver pair and took them for a test run.
Now in it’s third generation the Predator Incurza is the most rugby specific boot yet by adidas and it is designed for fly halves, fullbacks and scrum halves and is biggest name includes Dan Carter. Inspired by it’s brother the football/soccer Predator the boot is designed to harness your kicking power and accuracy as well as enhancing comfort and weight through the use of modern technologies including HYBRIDTOUCH and SL Rubber Kicking Zones.
DESIGN & COLOURWAY: Originally launched in October 2014, the Liquid Silver Incurza is arguably the best looking design so far for the latest Incurza generation. The primary colours are silver and red with silver covering the HYBRIDTOUCH material on the lateral side of the boot with additional red applications found on the SL Kicking Zone, tongue, laces and medial side of the boot. Black trim seen on the adidas three-stripes and logos finishes off the colourway in style.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Right out of the box the Predator Incurza fits like the Predator Instinct, tight, snug and comfortable. The new HYBRIDTOUCH material lowers the overall weight of the boot significantly from the previous generation and it forms and moulds to your feet just as good as leather does. A solid internal counter and Comfort Frame soleplate ensures a stable and secure fit from heel to toe while the combination of the off-centre lacing system and wide last makes this silo great for wide footed players. True to size is the way to go with these boots and as always you should try the sizes before you buy as you may consider moving upper half a size from your true size because of the tight fit right out of the box.
SL KICKING ZONES: Inspired by the zones first seen on the soccer/football Predator LZ, the Incurza uses a raised rubber line system located in the striking zone of the boot and it’s designed to offer a much more controlled strike of the ball aiding accuracy and power in the process. This is a boot designed for the kcikers of the game hence the reason it is worn by some of the world’s best kickers including Dan Carter, George Ford and Jonathan Sexton. The added rubber zones on top of the HYBRIDTOUCH material add that much needed protection on top of your foot as well.
SOLE: Now using a stud configuration designed to offer the highest levels of stud pressure distribution enhanced comfort and stability is ensured in the Incurza. Using a combination of metal and moulded conical and triangular studs you will have adequate traction in these boots in any weather conditions. It will work especially well in wet and muddy conditions.
VERDICT: The third generation of Incurza is an absolute hit with rugby’s top pros and it is arguably the most rugby specific boot yet by adidas. Now much lighter than the previous generation, the boot’s comfort levels will get better the longer you wear them and it’s a great option for those wide footed rugby players. A 9.5/10 rating is our pick for the Predator Incurza with no major cons present, expect this silo to be worn by the world’s best kickers at the upcoming 2015 Rugby World Cup in September/October.
