Footballer Dons Rugby Boots For African Nations Clash

The latest round of Football’s African Nations Cup threw up the rare, but not completely unique sight of an international footballer wearing Rugby boots, as Niger’s Mohamed Chicoto donned adidas RS7s for his sides’ clash against Mali.

A favourite with some of world rugby’s most dynamic speed merchants, including All Blacks’ Julian Savea and Ma’a Nonu, the RS7 is an incredibly lightweight boot which benefits from the technology of adidas’ patented SprintSkin upper.

Chicoto would have found the synthetic print on the ‘kicking zone’ of the boot of use, while the mix of moulded and removable studs makes the RS7 suitable for a wide variety of natural surfaces.

The African is not the first footballer to sport the RS7, with colourful Liverpool striker Luis Suarez wearing them during a match between his national side Uruguay and fellow South American’s Chile, in which he scored a hat-trick.

For the record, Chicoto’s Niger lost their clash with Mali 1-nil.
