Just Landed Puma EVOspeed Rugby Boots
We’ve just received a pair to test of Puma’s latest speed offering, the Evospeed 1. They are the boots worn by Irish number eight Jamie Heaslip and a number of the Irish side when they toured New Zealand. The Irish boys wore a mix of the white and the black colourway and we have our hands on the black:
We’ll be putting them on the feet of Josh, a young English number 8, who has played for England U19’s and was in the Saracens Academy. He’ll be putting the EVOspeed through their paces and letting us know how they do.
In the meantime the EVOspeed keeps cropping up in Super Rugby, especially where the South African sides are involved. At least five players were wearing them when the Sharks, hosted the Bulls last weekend playing for their Super Rugby competition life. The Sharks produced a startling performance to blow their much-vaunted opponents off the park. In a display that highlighted deficiencies in the Bulls game as much as it did the inherent ability of the hosts, the Sharks dominated from the kickoff, led by inspirational hooker Bismarck du Plessis.
Down 20-3 at halftime the home side kept their foot on the throat as the second spell began, and clinical counter-attacking play, combined with brutal defence and efficiency at the set piece saw the Sharks secure a famous 32-10 victory. There was good and bad news for South African rugby in the result – while they are now a chance to have three teams in the playoffs (the Stormers assured of topping the South African conference and a place in the top three), both the Bulls and the Sharks, should they qualify, will almost certainly have to travel outside the republic for knock-out games in either Australia or New Zealand.
