Ma’a Nonu Auctions adidas Boots For Cancer Kids

Ma’a Nonu uses his boots for more than just terrorising opposition backlines, auctioning off a pair of his adidas RS7 IIs to raise funds for Camp Quality, a volunteer organisation providing support programmes for kids living with cancer.

Nonu wore the distinctive lime-green boots in the All Blacks home game against the Wallabies, when the World Champions not only kept their trans-tasman neighbours scoreless for the first time in over 50 years, but also ensured the Bledisloe Cup would stay in New Zealand’s trophy cabinet for another Summer.

Built for speed, the RS7, also known as the ‘adiZero’ is a lightweight boot which fits the foot like a second skin. Nonu’s custom-made boots have his nickname, ‘Skux’, printed on them, and are also missing a stud which was lost in the Eden Park clash against Australia.

While Nonu’s early career was tinged with controversy and form lapses the midfielder is now one of the the first names written down in any All Blacks side, particularly with his nearest rival, Sonny Bill Williams, now plying his trade elsewhere.

Nonu was unable to inspire his new Super XV side, the Blues, in a challenging season for the franchise, but his personal form has been consistent of late, and the dread-locked 2nd 5 forms a formidable combination with former Hurricanes teammate Conrad Smith in the All Black midfield.
