Messam Chooses adiZero For Key Matches
Liam Messam followed a recent trend which has seen flankers opting for lightweight boots more commonly associated with outside backs as he took to Hamilton’s Rugby Park and helped the Chiefs to their first ever Super Rugby title with a resounding 37-6 over the visiting Sharks.
Messam’s boot of choice at the business end of the Super XV was the adidas AdiZero RS7 II Pro, a boot which is lighter, softer and stronger thanks to the Sprint Skin Upper. The Sprint Skin was adapted specifically for the Rugby version of the boot, making it more durable than its footballing counterpart.
2012 has been a golden season for Messam, who not only helped the Chiefs to their monumental success in the Super XV, but also came of age in the All Black jersey when given opportunities in the three test series against the touring Irish in the June test window.
Messam cut his teeth on the 7’s circuit as part of Gordon Tietjens’ all-conquering side, winning gold medals at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games. He made his debut for the All Blacks against Scotland in 2008, but has failed to cement a permanent spot in the team, missing out on the national squad which went on to lift the World Cup in 2011.
