Morne Steyn Changes to Nike Tiempo Legend IVs
South African fly-half Morne Steyn made a noticeable change in equipment as the Championship kicked off in Cape Town on the weekend, opting to wear Nike Tiempo Legend IVs instead of the Nike Vapor VIII boots he sported during the Super XV.
Steyn had an out-of-character performance in his last outing in the Super XV, failing to spark the Bulls as they succumbed in lackluster fashion to the Crusaders, so it may have been in an effort to start afresh that he opted for a change of footwear.
Whatever the reasoning, Steyn was almost flawless against the Argentinians, who were making their debut in the Southern Hemisphere’s premier international competition. A genuine leather boot, the Tiempo has a stitched pattern across the toes designed to increase ball control, as opposed to the synthetic material used in the construction of the Vapor VIII.
A moulded insert inside the boot increases support and enhances the fit, while a combination of conical and moulded studs makes the Tiempo a versatile boot. Stylistically the Tiempo is a shift away from the Vapor as well. While the Vapor was flamboyantly bright, the black and white colourway of the Tiempo creates a classic yet contemporary look. Steyn joins England’s Owen Farrell, another kicker opting for the Tiempo.
