Limited Edition Speed Boots: Nike Goes Green

Nike recently unveiled its latest creation, the NikeGS, its lightest and most environmentally friendly boot ever.

Limited to just 2012 pairs worldwide, the GS was conceived and engineered in Italy using recycled and renewable materials, to a brief that challenged designers to strip down the boot to include just the essential elements. The end product is an incredibly lightweight product (a size 9 weighs just 160 grams) which delivers explosive performance on the pitch whilst minimizing the impact on the planet.

From the bio-based traction plate made primarily from castor beans to the laces, lining and tongue, which contain a minimum of 70% recycled materials, the products used in the Green Speed are revolutionary, to say the least. “The Nike GS is the lightest and fastest football boot we’ve ever made and really defines a new era in how we create, design and produce elite football boots,” said Andy Caine, global design director for Nike Football.

When it comes to performance, engineers used anatomically positioned studs to maximize speed and responsive movement, and a solvent-free Kanga-Lite synthetic upper to provide zonal reinforcement, fostering exceptional touch and control.

The minimalist finish is the perfect complement to the technological advances inherent in the boots’ construction, with a stylish colourway featuring bright green on stark black providing a contemporary, yet subtle look.

Nike Green Speed will be available through Nike.com and selected online retailers from August 15th.
