Puma Sports

Puma AG has the same roots as Adidas as it was founded by Rudolf Dassler in 1924 with his brother. The companies split when the brothers fell out in 1948 and Rudolf started a new business called Ruda which he changed to Puma Schuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler the same year.

Puma AG Rudolf Dassler Sport (Puma) as it is now known is a large German-based multinational company that produces high-end athletic shoes and other sportswear. Though it is perhaps best known for its football boots and has sponsored such international football stars as Pele, Johan Cruyff, Diego Maradona, and Gianluigi Buffon. Puma is also the sponsor of the Jamaica track athlete Usain Bolt who won three gold medals by breaking the men’s 100m, 200m and 4x100m world records in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The company is not so well known for Rugby Boots but does have a good selection.

Puma in Rugby

Puma is currently the kit supplier of South Africa’s Blue Bulls. They also have Sprinbok’s pillar Duane Vermeulen and South Africa’s best try scorer Makazole Mapimpi under their roster of rugby players. In their victorious 2019 Rugby World Cup Final match against England, Vermeulen wore a Future 4.1 while Mapimpi, together with Lukhanyo Am, wore the One 5.1.
