Top Rugby World Cup Kicking Player’s Boots

After already showing you the popular brands worn at the tournament, we now take a look at what boots the players who kicked the most points were wearing. The honour of kicking the most points in the tournament goes to Morné Steyn of South Africa, who made fourteen conversions, seven penalties and one drop goal during the tournament and his side missed two games after getting knocked out in the quarter-finals to Australia.

Steyn was the only player at the tournament to score points kicking with the Nike Mercurial Vapor Superflys, a pair of boots you would more associate with footballers like Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo.

It was an Australian who was the second highest points scorer from kicks, James O’Connor registered 48 points from the boot for Australia, who finished the tournament in third place. O’Connor wore the Puma v1.11 boots at the tournament a recent release that has been worn by some big name footballers recently, but O’Connor was the only player to kick in them at the World Cup.

The most unusual boots came worn in New Zealand came from Berrick Barnes and Dan Parks. Berrick wore a pair of Nomis Glove boots; Nomis is an Australian brand that used to have a European presence until it went bankrupt after a shareholders dispute, the company though has the backing of the Rebel Sports retail chain in Barnes’s home country. Scotland’s Dan Parks wore a pair of Gilbert Xact, a pair Gilbert no longer make, but that they say he refuses to give up!

Quade Cooper went through three types of boots during the tournament, switching from Nike to adidas but then blacking out the adidas branding on the boots. The only other player to black out his boots was Samoa’s Tusi Pisi who kicked 25pts in the adidas RS7, that he covered up for sponsorship reasons.
